Perfectly done, but reasonably simple – these cupcake decorations are made of only a few shapes cut out of sugapaste and a little blick piping icing. They are featured on Daily Easy Food Recipes

Mixing it up with some bows, flowers and hearts – all part of the Hello Kitty theme. The pink is a nice contrast to the chocolate icing. Made by Blue Cupcakes

Wonderful bright colours, with cute little Hello Kitty toppers – making sure their hair bows don’t match the frosting. Simple and stunning cupcakes by Love To Cake

So much more detail with these 3D Hello Kitty cupcake toppers. I love the little extras of the single flower on each cake and the quilt effect sugapaste cupcake cover. I’m not too sure about the pairs of knickers on each cupcake though. They were made by Ana Fuji

Here is one made with just piping icing, I love the criss-cross technique of the pink icing. Although I haven’t tried this cupcake decorating idea myself, it seems this could be one of the easiest options for making Hello Kitty Cupcakes. Michelle at i heart baking made these ones.

Now, I this is an interesting post for me to do as I am not American, therefore I have never celebrated Thanksgiving. However, given how much I love Christmas dinner, I do feel like I’m missing out! As if you’re not getting enough food on the day, take a look to see if you fancy recreating any of these cupcake decorating ideas.
First we have these cute cupcakes turned into turkeys using candy corn (which I have also never had!). They are by Cakemuffingirl on Flickr

Then we have these beautiful little pumpkin topped frosting spirals upon cupcakes. The pumpkin looks like it is made of sugarpaste with a green swirl of royal icing from a piping bag. You could use a Jaffa (Cadburys chocolate) for the pumpkin if they are available in your country. By apuch on Flickr

This is a mini stroke of genius, using a Reece’s peanut butter cup and Oreo cookie base to make a Pilgrim Hat. Not only has easycupcakes made them, but they have also provided instructions so that you can bake these cupcakes yourself!

More complicated, but more effective, these sugarpaste turkey cupcakes are by Epiphanycupcakes

These really creative pumpkin patch cupcakes are by Duncan Hines, and include recipe.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Call it what you like, but this is a great time to brave a cold night in front of a bonfire, watching fireworks with friends and family. Only cupcakes can make it better, so try some of these decorations:
The bonfire is the main focus of attraction, so why not make your own edible versions in cupcake form. These simple cupcakes with chocolate matchsticks as logs were an idea created by someone on the Money Saving Expert Forum

I think these fire cupcakes are so effective for a technique which is reasonably simple. There are a couple of ways to do two tone icing. You can try painting food colouring into the piping bag before putting another colour frosting inside, or simply mixing a couple of batches of colours and alternating spoonful’s of colour into the piping bag. These are by Dozen Cupcakes

Here’s one to make with the kids, buttercream and royal icing swirls, covered in all the sparkly sprinkles you can find. These are by cakebysugar on Flickr.

With a similar technique, but a little more time and care, you can draw classic firework designs onto your cupcake using sprinkles to enhance the explosions. These are from the book Cupcake Magic, which is a wonderful little book I’d highly recommend. Please click the link below this post to see where you can get this book on Amazon.

If you have some extra time to spend with the sugarpaste, have a look at these cupcakes by Cake Lady Hinkley on Flickr. I love the Oohs and Ahhs, with the use of Flakes as logs of wood

Cupcakes are always a welcome addition to any baby shower, and if they’re decorated with a baby theme then they get the extra “coo” factor.
The Cupcake Blog features these cute cupcakes for a baby shower. Sometimes you will find yourself in the position where you don’t know if it is a girl or boy – so yellow is the ideal colour to go for to be safe. It looks like these are real safety pins, which look so cute, but make sure people know not to devour the cupcake in one without removing them!

Oh Crumbs Cupcakes have made these beautiful little blue and pink numbers. I love the idea of coloured frosting with white motifs.

Party Cupcake Ideas features these pink baby girl cupcakes with little butterflies. Some sugarcraft skills required, but the components are not too difficult, so could be a good challenge for a beginner.

These cute teddy bear cupcakes could be done in any colour like pink or yellow. They’re by Simply Sweets who also has some ideas for cookies and other sweet treats.

How about these classy chocolate unisex baby cupcakes? They’re by Martha Stewart and they’ll need a steady hand! A cupcake for a more sophisticated baby shower.

For those of you who are more skilled with the sugarpaste, try any, or all, of these cupcake ideas by Life of the Lukedragons (also a good site to peek at if you enjoy photography). My favourite is the pea in the pod!

The best way to express a message of love to your father is by writing it, these cakes by wANiE beSh on Flikr are done perfectly, the contrast of the chocolate frosting and the white writing is so effective with the little heart motifs on each.

If your dad just loves watching all kinds of sports (although my own father is not a sports fan at all), why not try this selection of balls by Flour and Sun Bakery

If your sugarcraft skills are up to scratch then try these more detailed sports (and other hobbies) themed cupcakes for Fathers Day by The Frosted Cake N Cookie

I came across these golf course cupcakes and fell in love with them. You can create the sand with crushed up biscuits, the rough with a grass piping nozzle and the green with geen sugar sprinkles. This collection is by Patty Cakes Bakery

Fd006 – Is your dad a fan of fishing? How cute are these little fishing rid cupcakes by Kids Fun Reviewed?

For dads that love photography and have probably taken photos of you at every stage of your life, there are these great camera cupcake decorating ideas by Designer Celebration Cakes

For the non-sporty dads, there are these nice simple designs if he works in an office, by Sweet Talk Cupcakery

Fairy Cupcakes are not to be confused with fairycakes. These are cupcakes decorated with a fairy theme that will fuel the imagination of the kids eating them. Take a look at what ideas are out there already:
The easiest cupcake design for a fairy party is to make the cupcakes into toadstools, as Speckled Freckle has done on her Fairy Party Ideas blog post.

The iconology of fairies is so well known, that you can make fairy cupcakes without adding an actual fairy at all, like Cupcake Sweeties in New Zealand have done.

In adition to the toadstool, Cupcake Woman has added a fairy relaxing against one on her cupcake.

Here is an awesome idea for making cupcakes into actual fairy wands, which I found on Sweets By Dee.

Here Sugarcrushmiami has made a beautifully colourful collection of cakes which feature fairies, wands, toadstools, butterflies, and tulips.

Tinkerbell must be the most famous of the fairies, and here are some Tinkerbell decorations you can try yourself, these are by Karen Tack who has also included instructions for how to make these cupcakes.
Patacake Parties has made this cute little collection that would take a little bit of extra time and effort to make, but it would be worth it.

I love it when someone thinks out of the box when decorating for a certain theme, how cute is this “crashed fairy” cupcake!? Made by Socake on Flickr

So I’ve been made aware that although Mother’s Day has been and gone in the UK, it is approaching this weekend in many other countries. I thought I’d better put together another collection of Mother’s Day cupcake ideas for those of you thinking of adding a personal touch to your mother’s day gift this year.
Don’t forget to check my previous past blog post on Mother’s Day cupcakes with a ‘rose’ theme. You can find it by clicking the Mother’s Day tab in the categories section on the right of the screen.
The running theme with these cupcakes is that they all feature the word ‘mum’ or ‘mom’.
As I always start with the most simple to create cupcakes, take a look at these cuties by Life As Mom

There is nothing sweeter than a single cupcake personalised just for you, and to have it sprinkled in chocolate? Well that has to be a winner. Made by Yummy Cupcakes

Using shape cutters, doesn’t mean you’re taking all creativity out of a design. These cakes are created with just shape cutters, but it is the colours and composition that makes them look original and fun, featured on The Daily Cupcake

If you are reading this blog the chances are you love Cupcakes and your mum. I’m going to take a stab in the dark and guess that you and your mum love chocolate too? This is the perfect little cupcake for all those themes. This comes from Best Hudson Valley Wedding Ever

Here is a beautiful collection with a great colour scheme, I love the way the ‘O’ is in the shape of a button. These are from the Cupcake Blog

I’m such a sucker for cupcakes with glitter on, and somehow this cupcake from Cake Love has managed to use lots of glitter and keep the cupcake looking classic and elegant.

Finally are these beautiful flowery cupcakes by CustomCreationsCupcakes with the chocolate and pink colour scheme popular with mother’s day, and the attention to detail that is the little butterfly on the petals of the flowers. The writing is created by piping melted chocolate onto a non-stick surface and leaving to set before sticking onto the cupcake.

I hope that whatever your mother ends up doing on Mother’s Day that she has a wonderful time. x

As spring approaches, so does Easter. As if you couldn’t get enough sugar from all the chocolate eggs, how about some cupcakes too. There are many spring themes to work with, so I’ve found examples of some of the main ones to get your ideas flowing.
A Nest of Eggs:
One of the easiest decorations to do, I remember making these with my mum when I was a child. The nest is made with a Cadbury’s Flake and the eggs are Cadbury’s Mini Eggs – however there are possibly alternate brands of both these products.

From Spooonful Of Sugar
Hatchling Chicks:
These are many many ways to do chicks, but I love this collection with some still in their shell. An alternate method would be to replace the yellow sugarpaste with a layer of yellow buttercream instead.

From The Cupcake Blog
Easter Bunny:
Now not only are these cute, but they combine cupcakes and cookies. Not only that, but the wonderful blogger at Sweet Sugar Belle has included step by step instructions.

From Sweet Sugar Belle
Spring Flowers: Tulips
Tulips are my favourite flowers, so I’m in love with these simple but stunning tulip cupcakes (the sweet Easter Bunny cupcake stand doesn’t do any harm either).

From The Cupcake Blog
A Full Easter Collection:
And for you sugarcraft enthusiasts who are looking for something more complex to try out, how about this beautiful Easter collection? My favourite is the basket on the tip right, genius!
