Bonfire Night – Guy Fawkes – Fireworks Night – 5th of November Cupcakes

Call it what you like, but this is a great time to brave a cold night in front of a bonfire, watching fireworks with friends and family. Only cupcakes can make it better, so try some of these decorations:

The bonfire is the main focus of attraction, so why not make your own edible versions in cupcake form. These simple cupcakes with chocolate matchsticks as logs were an idea created by someone on the Money Saving Expert Forum

I think these fire cupcakes are so effective for a technique which is reasonably simple. There are a couple of ways to do two tone icing. You can try painting food colouring into the piping bag before putting another colour frosting inside, or simply mixing a couple of batches of colours and alternating spoonful’s of colour into the piping bag. These are by Dozen Cupcakes

Here’s one to make with the kids, buttercream and royal icing swirls, covered in all the sparkly  sprinkles you can find. These are by cakebysugar on Flickr.

With a similar technique, but a little more time and care, you can draw classic firework designs onto your cupcake using sprinkles to enhance the explosions. These are from the book Cupcake Magic, which is a wonderful little book I’d highly recommend. Please click the link below this post to see where you can get this book on Amazon.

If you have some extra time to spend with the sugarpaste, have a look at these cupcakes by Cake Lady Hinkley on Flickr. I love the Oohs and Ahhs, with the use of Flakes  as logs of wood

Royal Wedding, British Cupcakes for Prince William and Kate Middleton – Or the Queens Jubilee!

So, on 29th April 2011 Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting married. Those in the UK are getting a day off work to celebrate, and what do we do at Cupcake Decorating Ideas when we want to celebrate something? Yes, we come up with Cupcake Ideas for it so you can make your own at home.

We are basically looking at union jack colours and royal symbols. So as always, let start with the more simple ideas out there that you can try. These cakes could also be made for the Queens Jubilee comming up in 2012.

First of are these quirky cupcake from Tesco Real Food I love the strong deep colours of the icing. It just goes to show you don’t need fancy icing equipment have fancy icing. Tesco have also included a recipe for the cupcakes and instructions for making the crowns.

If you have a steady hand you can try piping little union jacks, like on these cupcakes as shown on English Wedding

These cakes from Completely Cakes are cute. If you don’t have time to order in edible picture decorations you could try just printing pictures out on paper and sticking them to the tops of toothpicks as decorative flags to be removed before eating.

If however you do have time to order some edible photos, why not try placing them on buttercream frosting in Union Jack colours? I do not know who made these cupcakes, so if you know, please tell me so I can credit them.

No British street party can be complete without bunting, why not try these hand painted bunting flags stringed together with strawberry lace, courtesy of Cupcake Revolution.

As we get into more complicated designs, we move onto royal purple, which I love with gold. These crowns are perfect for the royal wedding and the little cameo ‘W+K’ in the background are a special touch. These cupcakes are by Rachael Walker and shown on Good To Know.

These cakes are as if the royal butler made them himself, pure perfection, not a touch out of place. Made by Donna Makes Cakes.

If you are making these cakes for the Queens Jubilee you can easily change some of the elements to be more fitting to the situation.

Finally, less focus on the ‘Royal’ and more on the ‘Wedding’, look at this elegant design by. You could always use a photo of Kate Middleton in place for the head. Once again, I cannot find who made these, so please let me know if they’re yours.

Getting Ready For St Patrick’s Day

As we are moving towards St Patricks Day (March 17th), lets take a look at some of the ideas out there that you can try yourselves at home:

This cupcake is simple but beautiful to look at, however all the real effort has gone into the ingredients rather than the design. The sponge is made with Guinness Stout, and the frosting is made with Baileys. I have already decided to try this one out myself this weekend.

For a full review of this cake, and more great photos, read Chris Blakeley’s Flikr entry here

If you are confident with making the basic sponge, and the basic buttercream, but not much else (or just don’t have too much time spare) why not try this effective idea by Martha Stewart:

Now on the complete other end of the scale, check out these designs by Sweetie Pie’s Boutique Bakery (n.b if you want to try doing these for yourself, you might want to get started now to have them done by the 17th!)
