This year (2011) St George’s Day falls on the day before Easter Sunday. Two great reasons to have a cupcake filled weekend! Luckily for you, the England flag is nice and simple, so lets start with a couple of designs you should be able to try at home quite easily;
Here are some beautiful homemade cupcakes, fitting as many flags possible onto one single cupcake. There come from Cupcake Recipe

Another way to do that flag which has a more simplistic look, but a little bit more tricky to make it look perfect is this idea from jembogawa on flickr

Another symbol of England is the red English Rose. You can buy pre-made roses from some supermarkets and most cake decorating shops. Adding one to a buttercream mountain is simple but effective, like this one from Great Belfast Food

It is possible to make the roses by hand with sugrpaste and a simple leaf stamp can make some realistic rose leaves. Cupcake Woman made this one to celebrate England playing in the football world cup.

The most famous story of St George was that he slayed a dragon, and with that – why not make your own dragon cupcakes with a mixture of whatever sweets and toys you can get your hands on. An example of this is here on The Cupcake Blog. You’ll notice that this is made out of two cupcakes joined together.

If you feel more comfortable with sugarpaste, try this curled up dragon (or buy it pre-made from this etsy page)
